Extrapolations (TV show review)

A brief review of Extrapolations, a TV series from 2023.

This is a rollercoaster quality wise. I skipped through/gave up on at least one episode, maybe two or more I can't remember now as watched over a good few weeks. But, the good bits are great.

I suspect my favourite was the first episode. Clearly the people behind this, writers, producers etc know exactly what's up. I mean, we are heading down this path and these outcomes are perfectly plausible - it's terrifying.

Unfortunately I suspect it won't find many people who could do with broadening their view on the subject. In fact even while watching it the flaky Apple TV+ app on the Apple TV (ffs) would lose where I was and I had to dig around for it, so clearly Apple don't promote it all that much.

Some episodes were down there at 1 or 2 stars, but for the overall vision I have to give it a rating above the average online. I saw someone else in a Letterboxd review mention some are like low-rent episodes of black mirror, which is ironic as this probably has more budget, but I totally agree.

Even the finale was a mixed bag in that sense, but the idea that your ultimate capitalist is still ploughing on enjoying their 2054 Pinot (the last one) with (real) venison from his Eden Project bubble contained mansion is... chef's kiss? I mean, it's depressing but it's chef's kiss. Meanwhile the daughter storyline in that episode feels a little forced in, the ecocide case was enough and I enjoyed the idea that we have all accepted a 3 way AI judge that incorporates all views from around the world.
